Thierry Henry hopes to become Arsenal manager but have a long way to go.

Thierry Henry admits he is interested in becoming Arsenal manager.

Thierry Henry was set to coach the club’s Under-18s side this season but has been forced to step aside after Arsene Wenger wanted him to drop his role as a pundit for Sky Sports.

Henry completed his UEFA A license earlier this year but the former France international insists his is still far from taking his first steps into management.

“I’d be lying if I told you being manager wasn’t a wish that I have because I love Arsenal,” Henry told The Sun. “The game is my passion and always will be. I would like to manage — but I am far from it.

“Although I am able to manage any team now, I would still like to pass my Uefa Pro Licence, which I’m working on to give me a better all-round knowledge.

“Before you can think of becoming a first-team coach you need to have experience. That is what I’m trying to get and to complete the necessary coaching hours that are needed.

“There is a massive difference between a wish and doing it. I felt I could add something to the kids and also gain valuable experience myself.

“If it’s not to be there, then so be it. I have to respect the situation. I’ll continue to support the team and wish them the best for this season."

Will Cristiano Ronaldo win the next Ballon d'Or award? Barcelona star Neymar have an answer

Will Cristiano Ronaldo win the next Ballon d'Or award? Barcelona star Neymar have an answer

Neymar agrees Cristiano Ronaldo to be Ballon d'Or award favorite. According to Neymar, this is not the year for his teammate, Lionel Messi.

In another six months, the winner of the next Ballon d'Or award won't be named but Neymar has picked Cristiano Ronaldo over Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi as the favorite to win the 2016 Ballon d'Or, which is the highest individual honor a player can win.

"Ronaldo won the Champions League and now Euro 2016 as well," Neymar was quoted as telling a Brazilian media outlet. "So I believe he is in a good position. Plus, Ronaldo is a great player. I have no qualms in saying that."

Neymar was up against Ronaldo and Messi last year, but came in third as Messi won his fifth Ballon d'Or. Ronaldo has won three for 2008, 2013 and 2014.

But the question now is will Cristiano Ronaldo win the next Ballon d'Or award?

Arsene Wenger speaks out : Could I manage England.

Arsene Wenger insists he will not break his contract at Arsenal which expires in 2017

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger speaks out over managing England team.

Arsenal boss Wenger, told beIN Sports: "Could I manage England, why not? I would never rule that out, but I am happy and focused in club football.

"England is my second country. I was absolutely on my knees when England went out against Iceland. I couldn't believe it.

"But when you watched the game you could sense, after 60 minutes, that the worst could happen.

"Did they panic or were they tired? I don't know, but England couldn't find an answer to what Iceland posed.

"I have one more year to go with Arsenal and I have been with them for a long time. I have always respected all my contacts [throughout my career] and will continue to do that.

"What will I do after that? Honestly, I don't know."

Eric Cantona warns Zlatan Ibrahimovic: There can only be one King in Manchester.

Eric Cantona tells Zlatan Ibrahimovic he is the king in Manchester United.

Manchester United 'king' Eric Cantona has welcomed Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Old Trafford but informed the enigmatic Swede there can only be one ruler of the Theatre of Dreams.

Eric Cantona begins with - 'I have a personal message for Zlatan, You decided to go red, it is the best choice you ever made.

'When you walk into the Theatre of Dreams and you feel the ghosts of the legends who have been there before, when you score a goal right in front of the Stretford End; when you hear the crowd chanting your name; when your heart beats so strong that it bursts out of your chest; when you feel that you will love them as much as they love; you will know, my fiend, that finally you have made it home.

Before adding: 'Just one last thing. There can only be one King in Manchester. You can be the Prince if you want to and the No 7 shirt is yours if you are interested. This is my welcome gift to you.

'The King is gone. Long live the Prince.'

Harry Redknapp says Manchester United shouldn’t pay £100m Pogba.

Harry Redknapp says Manchester United shouldn’t pay £100m for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba this summer.

According to Spanish media outlet AS, Jose Mourinho is closing in on the £102m signing of Pogba after United agreed a deal in principle with the Italian side for the midfielder.

Harry Redknapp has questioned Manchester United's move for Juventus ace Paul Pogba.

Redknapp told BetSafe ~ “If I was the owners of Manchester United, I’d be very aggrieved in that we actually let him go on a free transfer and we’ve now got to pay 100 million to get him back,”

“I don’t think I’d like that, I think my pride would stop me from paying a player 100 million when we gave him away.”

Exclusive: Man United boss Mourinho will flog £20m Mata again to make space for Pogba

JUAN MATA is set to be dumped by Jose Mourinho for a second time as Manchester United look to make room for the £100million arrival of Juventus ace Paul Pogba.

It was Mourinho who sold the Spanish international to United for a then record £37.1m because he wanted him to play wider and didn’t work hard enough defensively.

Mata, 28, has scored 26 times in 104 appearances for United but the writing looked to be on the wall for the end of his stay as soon as Mourinho was appointed.

And even though he wants to remain at Old Trafford and fight for his first-team place, Mourinho has already made up his mind and is ready to sell him again.

Mata, who spent most of last season playing on the right, is one of the most popular figures in the United dressing room.

Exclusive: Morata to cost Chelsea and Arsenal £50m as Real Madrid make intentions clear

Real activated a £23m buy-back clause to take Morata back from Italian giants Juventus, even though they see no future for him at the club.

It would appear that their sole purpose for re-signing Morata is to double their money by selling him on to a Premier League club.

Morata is unwilling to become a fourth striker at the Bernabeu and knows that he would hit the jackpot by more than doubling his wages in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old scored 27 goals in 93 appearances for Juventus, where he won two Serie A titles and reached the Champions League final.

Rival London bosses Arsene Wenger and Antonio Conte are both keen to strengthen their attacking options by signing Morata, who scored three goals for Spain during Euro 2016 .

WE PAY OUR TAXES!' - BARCA'S #WEAREALLLEOMESSI CAMPAIGN BACKFIRES

The Catalan side launched the hashtag to gather support for the Argentine in the wake of his conviction, but fans on Twitter have used it to criticise the player and the club

When Barcelona launched their hashtag campaign to gather support for Lionel Messi in the wake of his conviction for tax fraud, they must have expected fans across the globe would get behind the best player on the planet.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner was sentenced to 21 months in jail, alongside his father, while the forward has been fined €2 million, after they were found guilty of defrauding Spain's tax authority of €4.1m between 2007 and 2009.

Barca launched the #WeAreAllLeoMessi campaign on Twitter to generate support from the club's fans across the world , but the initiative to get people to give their backing to a multi-millionaire convicted of dodging taxes has backfired - who would have guessed?

HEARTLAND 1-0 ENYIMBA: EJIKE SNATCH LATE WINNER IN ORIENTAL DERBY

The Naze Millionaires continued their battle for survival in the Nigeria elite division with a morale boosting win against Paul Aigbogun's men

Heartland defeated Enyimba 1-0 in Saturday’s Nigeria Professional Football League oriental derby played at the Dan Anyiam Stadium.

Bright Ejike struck late from the spot to help the hosts overcome their highflying visitors in a fierce oriental contest in Owerri.

Both sides were faced with different futures with the Owerri-based outfit battling to beat the drop, while a win for the People's Elephants would help their quest to retain the NPFL title.

Pepe fit for game of his life

Portugal defender Pepe has declared himself fit for the biggest game of his life against hosts France in the final of Euro 2016.

Pepe sat out this week's 2-0 semi-final win over Wales in Lyon due to a thigh complaint but, after training on Saturday, he was happy to confirm his availability sat alongside head coach Fernando Santos at a pre-match news conference.

The 33-year-old collected his second Champions League title with Real Madrid in May but believes the chance to claim Portugal's first major international honour outstrips anything he has experienced during a decorated career.

"Yes, it is the biggest game, because I am representing my people, my country," he said. "We want to write our names down in history.

"And we believe that we can play well. We want to follow the gaffer's orders and we hope to bring great joy to all the Portuguese players.

"Tomorrow we will have 11 million people, 11 players and three players to come on. Every one will want to write their name into the history of Portuguese football."

Leading the charge for Portugal will be captain Cristiano Ronaldo, with much of the pre-match build-up focusing on the prospect of a personal duel between himself and France's tournament top scorer Antoine Griezmann.

Griezmann deserves Zidane, Platini comparisons - Henry

France star Griezmann deserves the comparisons to Zinedine Zidane and Michel Platini, according to Thierry Henry.

Griezmann has been the star of Euro 2016, scoring six times to lead France into Sunday's final against Portugal in Paris.

For the Atletico Madrid man, it has led to comparisons to famous countrymen Zidane and Platini – the latter being the only one to score more at a single European Championship with his nine in 1984.

Henry, a 123-time France international, said Griezmann's performances warranted the plaudits.

"He deserves it, at the moment. How far he's going to take it, that's up to him. Hopefully he's going to take it as far as Sunday," he told the BBC.

"We have again a guy that can make us win, why not?

"If we win, you're going to be almost sure that it's because Antoine Griezmann scored."

Mancini not concerned by Inter draw

Inter coach Roberto Mancini has said he is not concerned with his team's 0-0 draw against Austrian side WSG Wattens.

The friendly was Inter's first of their pre-season, but despite fielding a team that included the likes of Mauro Icardi, Stevan Jovetic and Geoffrey Kondogbia - who all started the game – the Serie A side could not find a way through the stubborn Wattens defence.

Mancini changed all 11 players at half-time, but his second-string outfit had no luck either.

But Mancini said he was not bothered by the result or his side's failure to score.
"The lads are all too heavy-legged and I asked them not to push too hard, because there was too big a risk they could get hurt today," Mancini told the club's in-house television channel.

"The first few days of pre-season are tough and that's going to take its toll on fitness levels. The fans are always close to the team and that is very important."

Cantona tells Zlatan: I am king of Manchester, you can be prince

Eric Cantona has welcomed Zlatan Ibrahimovic to United, but the Old Trafford great has warned there is only one king of Manchester.

But Cantona, dubbed "the King" by the Old Trafford faithful for his performances during his five-year stint at United, told Ibrahimovic he could always be the prince, in his latest Eurosport commercial appearance.

"I have a personal message for Zlatan," begins Cantona. "You decided to go red, it is the best choice you ever made.

"When you walk into the Theatre of Dreams and you feel the ghosts of the legends who have been there before, when you score a goal right in front of the Stretford End; when you hear the crowd chanting your name; when your heart beats so strong that it bursts out of your chest; when you feel that you will love them as much as they love you; you will know, my friend, that finally you have made it home."

But Cantona did have one word of warning for Ibrahimovic, adding: "Just one last thing. There can only be one king in Manchester. You can be the prince if you want to and the number seven shirt is yours if you are interested. This is my welcome gift to you.

"The king is gone. Long live the prince."

Maradona: Ronaldo hunger could be decisive

Maradona believes just how desperate Cristiano Ronaldo is for a major international title could decide Portugal's Euro 2016 final against France.

Ronaldo and Co. face the tournament hosts in Paris on Sunday, with Portugal looking to win their first major trophy.

Fernando Santos' men, who have had Ronaldo score three times at the tournament, have been criticised for their style of play in reaching the decider.

However, football great Maradona feels Portugal are capable of causing an upset – if Ronaldo wants it enough.

"It's not all about strategy in big games. Wanting something badly is big motivation," he wrote in The Times of India.

"Playing a second final at 31, Ronaldo won't get a better chance at international glory.

"How badly he wants it could determine the distance between France and yet another successful home run."

While Ronaldo has done enough for Portugal, Antoine Griezmann has been the star of Euro 2016 with six goals.

Adrian excited for new season

West Ham goalkeeper Adrian says he is excited for the campaign ahead as the Premier League club look to build on last season's seventh-place finish.

Adrian missed the end of last season through injury, but with the prospect of playing in the Olympic Stadium and West Ham looking to make a statement in the transfer market, he said he was as excited as ever to be at the club.

"I feel so proud to be one of the more experienced players in the dressing room," he told West Ham TV.

"This is now my fourth pre-season with West Ham United and I feel like an experienced player and I've been trying to help the new signings and to start working for the new exciting season.

"Of course we have a lot to look forward to. It was so hard to finish last season with a small injury because I like to play all the games, but it was a magnificent end to our history at Upton Park.

Lazio can trust me, insists Inzaghi

Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi insists the fans can put their faith in him despite the controversy surrounding his appointment.

The former striker, who had been coach of the Primavera side, took charge of the first team following the dismissal of Stefano Pioli in April.

Inzaghi had been informed that Marcelo Bielsa would be taking over as head coach for 2016-17, but the Argentine sensationally pulled out of the deal this week, accusing the club of failing to adhere to agreements in player recruitment.

A solicitor for Lazio branded Bielsa's actions "unjustifiable", with the capital club expected to pursue legal action against the former Athletic Bilbao boss.

Inzaghi, meanwhile, has been put back in charge after a deal to take over at Salernitana – a club owned by Lazio president Claudio Lotito – was put aside.

And the former Italy international is confident he is the right man to deliver results on the pitch following a turbulent few days.

Mourinho needs an enemy to attack - Milito

Inter striker Diego Milito says Jose Mourinho needs an enemy to attack as the coach thrives on conflict.

New Manchester United manager Mourinho will go head-to-head with old foe Pep Guardiola, now in charge of Manchester City, in the Premier League next season, and took aim at predecessor Louis van Gaal and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger this week as he got to work at Old Trafford.

Milito, who fired Inter to Champions League glory in 2010 under the leadership of Mourinho, believes the Portuguese is deliberately antagonistic towards his opponents.

"Sometimes he invents [enemies] himself on purpose," the retired forward said. "Guardiola included, just go and ask Pep.

"Mourinho is a great leader of groups, we are talking about a coach of the highest level in the world. He makes sure that every player gives 100 per cent, has the right word at the right moment and can be punishing when necessary.

"He knows how to protect his team and always needs an enemy to be able to attack or defend his squad."

Barcelona launch social media campaign in support of Messi

Barcelona have launched a social media campaign to support Lionel Messi after the 29-year-old was handed a 21-month jail sentence by a Spanish court for being found guilty of fiscal fraud.

The Argentinian and his father Jorge were both given the same prison sentence for the offence, with the prolific attacker fined €2million for three counts of tax fraud and his dad hit with a €1.7m charge.

Both men have always denied any wrongdoing and Messi's representatives confirmed on Wednesday that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner will fight his conviction at the Supreme Court.

Barcelona are determined to show their star man they are 100 per cent behind him and have now called on their fans to show their support, too.

Hallgrimsson compares Iceland heroes to World Cup winners

coach Heimir Hallgrimsson has hailed his team as "legends" and compared them to England's World Cup winning side of 1966.
Hallgrimsson has taken sole charge having shared coaching duties with Lars Lagerback, who retired after the tournament, at Euro 2016.

The historic run to the quarter-finals by Iceland, which saw them draw with Portugal and beat England and was ended by a 5-2 defeat to hosts France, was one of the stories of the tournament.

"The players are now legends in the eyes of Iceland's people," Hallgrimsson told The Guardian.

"They will be remembered in the same way England venerates its World Cup winners from 1966; they have given the currency of our football a huge boost and it will extend beyond sport too, as a wonderful advertisement for a country that is now on the map like never before.

Griezmann as good as Messi and Ronaldo - Sagna

Antoine Griezmann is in the same league as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, believes his France team-mate Bacary Sagna.

Griezmann faces Ronaldo in Sunday's Euro 2016 final as hosts France take on Portugal, with his six goals making him a near-certainty to claim the golden boot.

Sagna insists Griezmann should now be considered one of the best players in the world, noting the Atletico Madrid forward had to leave France to succeed.
.
"Antoine, to me, is right up there in the same league as Ronaldo and Lionel Messi," Sagna told UEFA.com.

Santos: Ronaldo could play for 10 more years

Fernando Santos believes Cristiano Ronaldo could give up to a decade more of service to the Portugal national team.
Ronaldo will captain Santos' side in Sunday's Euro 2016 final against hosts France as he bids for his and his country's first major international honour.

The 31-year-old Real Madrid star, who is Portugal's all-time record appearance maker and goalscorer, could be presented with perfect moment with which to bid farewell if he hoists the Henri Delaunay Cup at the Stade de France.

But Santos insists his star player has much more to give.
"There's a final tomorrow so in that sense, yes, it will be a final for him." he said
"As for Cristiano, he will play for another six, seven or 10 years. Tomorrow will not be his final match, I'm sure."

Taking on the job of Portugal coach reunited Santos with Ronaldo, who he oversaw briefly at Sporting Lisbon before the teenager moved to Manchester United in 2003.

Hospital records prove Renato Sanches' real age

Jerry Maguire had this sports lark figured out. We take it far too seriously and are sceptical when the good times roll in.

So it went when Renato Sanches ripped home a cracking goal against Poland in the Euro 2016 quarter finals. 'This lad can't be 18. He's too damn good.'

Former Auxerre coach Guy Roux added fuel to what had been a murmur about Sanches for the last few years. He assured the press that Sanches was not 18 but '23 or 24'. Nothing too specific but pretty damaging.

ENUGU RANGERS 2-1 ABIA WARRIORS: FLYING ANTELOPES MOVE ATOP NPFL LOG

The Flying Antelopes have surged back to the summit of the league table after a nervy home win over the Umuahia side on Friday night

Enugu Rangers have reclaimed the leadership of the Nigeria Professional Football League log after defeating Abia Warriors 2-1at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu Friday night.

The Enugu were comfortable in the first half after they led 2-0 through the goals of Obinna Nwobodo and Chisom Egbuchulam but Michael Olaha reduced the deficit in the local derby.

NFF SHORTLISTS LE GUEN, YUSUF & SAINFIET FOR EAGLES' JOB

The three-time African champions are closing in on naming their new coach after whittling down the list of candidates for the job

Salisu Yusuf, Paul Le Guen and Tom Sainfiet are on a three-man shortlist to replace Sunday Oliseh as Nigeria coach.

Oliseh ended his reign in charge of the Super Eagles following the country’s poor showing at the 2017 Africa Nations Championship, with the Nigeria Football Federation receiving application letters from over 20 coaches to replace him.

Former Nigeria internationals Peter Ijeh and Sylvanus Okpala as well as Adebayo Lateef Kola were all on the list.

However, Frenchman Le Guen who once handled the Cameroonian national team, former Ethiopia handler Sainfiet who once handled Namibia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Togo and interim Super Eagles coach Salisu are now among those being considered.

New Liverpool contract ´like a penalty´ for Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has described his new contract with Liverpool as being "like a penalty", and now he has to convert.

The Liverpool manager has proven a hugely popular appointment following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers last season, even if he was unable to salvage a European spot from a poor start to the season.

Klopp's side lost two finals last season, first a League Cup final and then a Europa League final, but the club was happy enough with the progress made under the former Borussia Dortmund coach they offered him a new six-year deal.

"I said to LFCTV that signing the new contract is a little bit like having a penalty – now we have to finish it. You cannot celebrate the penalty, you have to score the goal. That's what we have to do now," Klopp said after overseeing his side's first game of the pre-season - a 1-0 win over Tranmere Rovers on Friday.

"We really need to be successful, that's clear; we need to develop the club, we need to develop a lot of things."
